Hello!

Welcome to the web version of my Obsidian ‘Mathematics’ vault, i.e. my notes. I began taking notes in this way in November 2024, during my third semester of undergrad, so the notes here begin halfway through my introductory number theory and group theory courses (though I tried to fill in some old definitions for some level of completeness). I’ve given a short guide on how this system works and a brief explanation of the project and its genesis below.

Usage Guide

The notes are full of internal links, which look like this. You can either click on them to view the linked note file, or hover to see a scrollable preview. The left sidebar contains a menu that shows all of my notes files, as well as files for each of my classes, and some textbooks that I studied from particularly comprehensively. The graph on the right shows the local graph view, in other words a visual representation of the notes that directly link to or from the current note, and can be expanded to show the global graph which contains all the notes in this vault and the links between them. You can also use the search bar if you’re looking for a particular topic or topic-area. If you have any questions feel free to email me at giancarlo@stabler.info. Happy exploring!

The Project

This project started on November 9th, 2024 when I began taking notes for my math classes using Obsidian. Since then, I’ve been working on maintaining and growing this knowledge base as I get exposed to more math. Note that it is very much so a work in progress and due to its nature will probably stay that way forever (I don’t see what the end would even entail).

My goal is for this space to exist as my own mini-encyclopedia that (somewhat accurately) reflects the content that I have seen and worked through. I landed on Obsidian for my note-taking because of the ease with which you can connect different notes and ideas together through internal links, a structure which I think can be perfectly utilized in the study of math (connecting topics from different classes). As these are my own notes, they were written to primarily serve as a reference for myself (and in the beginning, solely for that sake), so I apologize for any confusing wording, mistakes, or missing explanations. Thank you for checking out my project!
